Battle of The Village: Reenactment 2026

245th Anniversary Event
This event will take place January 9 to 11, 2026 at the Historic Blakeley State Park.
Historic Context:
After the loss of Mobile to the Spanish in 1780, British General John Campbell launched a counter attack on Mobile. On the morning of January 7, 1781, the British forces arrived to siege a palisade fort constructed by the Spanish on the far side of the bay; this was located near a settlement called “French Village” or “The Village.” The British forces, led by Colonel Johann von Hanxleden, fell into disarray and were repelled after the sudden death of their commander during the battle.
