DESCRIPTION:A two-day historical adventure in Old Washington Historic District in Maysville\, Kentucky. The Simon Kenton Festival includes presentations from historical heroes such as Simon Kenton and Daniel Boone\, pioneer games\, music\, museum tours\, artisans\, and much more. This weekend will be sure to provide you with historical knowledge\, a treasured keepsake\, and memories that will last a lifetime. \nWashington was established in 1786\, by the Virginia Legislature\, six years before Kentucky became a state. By 1790\, Washington had grown to 119 log cabins\, the second largest town in Kentucky. After separation from Bourbon County in 1788 Washington became the County seat of Mason County\, which included nearly one-fourth of the area of Kentucky. \nBuildings in Washington today include: FLATBOAT – C. 1787 Mefford’s Station is the last known flatboat house in existence; CANE BRAKE – Visitor’s Center – Original 1790 log cabin; LOG POST OFFICE – Only known working log post office in the United States. \nFor more information\, contact info@cityofmaysvilleky.gov

SUMMARY:Carter Caves Pioneer Life Week 2022
DESCRIPTION:July 25 – 30: Pioneer Life Week: 30th Anniversary! During a week dedicated to the Revolutionary War\, The War of 1812 and the settlement of lands around the Ohio River\, re-enactors\, and other special programs bring this rich heritage back to life. The pioneer camp is open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday – Saturday. Programs featured throughout the week including tomahawk throwing\, black powder rifle demonstrations\, spinning and weaving demonstrations\, primitive fire making\, pioneer clothing interpretation and other living history skill demonstrations. \nReenactors/Demonstrators are invited to participate. \nInterested reenactor/demonstrators please contact Paul Tierney @ 606-286-7009 OR email at paul.tierney@ky.gov \nMany camp in the pioneer encampment all week\, but there may be some availability for electric hookup sites if interested. Advanced reservation is required\, standard rates apply to modern campsites. \nLimited space is available. \nThis is a week long camp. Wood\, water\, ice\, porta-jon’s and showers available to campers at no charge. General public visit camp Monday through Saturday 10 am to 6 pm. \nCamp feast Saturday evening. DESCRIPTION:One of the springtime’s most popular family festivals\, the Appalachian Festival will be Mother’s Day Weekend at Coney Island. It will feature old-time music\, handmade crafts\, storytelling\, dancing\, an authentic pioneer village\, mouth-watering food\, and more. \nThe Appalachian Community Development Association’s Mission\nOur mission is to promote the social\, educational\, and cultural development within the Appalachian Community of the Greater Cincinnati and the Larger Appalachian Region. We strive to improve our self-image and encourage the best of Appalachian values while creating understanding and appreciation of our cultural heritage. \nHistory of our Festival\nThe A.C.D.A. has produced the Appalachian Festival. The organization’s directed by an all-volunteer Board of Trustees\, with at least 75% of those members being of Appalachian descent. The Appalachian Festival has been held annually during Mother’s Day weekend attracting at least 10\,000 visitors\, with an additional 1\,000 school children taking part in “Education Day”\, which is the first day of the festival each year.
