DESCRIPTION:It is once again time for Fort Gibson Historic Site’s annual Education Day! This year is a bit special as it is also the 200th anniversary of the Fort’s establishment. Keep reading for details and how your class can join in.\nOn 19 April 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.\, Fort Gibson Historic Site will host our annual Education Day. The site will be closed to the general public/non school groups. Living Historians will set up a variety of stations across the grounds depicting various aspects of life in the 1800s.\n\nRegistration times are 9:00 a.m.\, 10:00 a.m\, 11:00 a.m.\, 12:00 p.m.\, 1:00 p.m. and classes must register to attend.\nThanks to a Heritage Preservation Grant\, this event will be free to schools though registration is required.\nRegistration will remain open as long as there are spots available. Registration closes Friday 12 April 2024.\nTo register\, send an email to fortgibson@history.ok.gov. For faster service please include ‘Ed Day Registration’ in the subject line.\n\n\nThe stations one can expect to see are listed below with updates as we confirm new groups.\n\n1830s soldiers- Soldiers depicting drill\, training\, weaponry\, and activities during the 1830s.\nmid 19th century soldiers- Soldiers depict drill\, training\, weaponry\, and activities from the mid 1800s.\nLaundress quarters- Get a look at what went in to the work of the first women employed by the United States military and why laundresses were in such high demand!\nMess Hall- Cooking demonstrations as living historians prepare food for the folks serving on post.\nSutler Store- How did soldiers and others on post purchase goods not provided by the U.S. Army? Check out our sutler store to find out!\nFort Gibson Historic Site Commissary- Learn about the history of the Fort with a 14-minute orientation video\, browse the gift shop full of 19th century toys\, candy\, and replicas\, and learn more about the timeline of the Fort with our new exhibits!\nBake House- 19th century bakehouse to learn about how the military provided bread for soldiers.\n\nMore to be added as we get closer to the event!
