DESCRIPTION:The Annual Fort Frederick\n18th Century Market Fair\n\n\nApril 27 – 30\, 2023\nThe Friends of Fort Frederick and staff of Fort Frederick State Park are pleased to announce that we will host the 27h annual 18th Century Market Fair in April 2023.\n\nThe public are welcome Thursday\, April 27th through Sunday\, April 30th. Public hours are:\n \n\nThursday through Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm\nSunday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.\n\nParticipant registration will begin on Wednesday\, April 26th.  See the Event Information 2023 document on this website for gate hours. \nAUCTION to be held on Saturday! \nCome to historic Fort Frederick\, an original stone fort built in 1756 during the French and Indian War and travel back in time to an authentic 18th century market fair.  A whiff of campfires fills the air. Colorful entertainers are found strolling about the fair. There are over 100 sutlers (period vendors) selling 18th century wares: pottery\, tin and copper ware\, clothing\, material and patterns\, books\, fireplace and cooking hardware\, muskets and accoutrements\, horn wares\, paintings and prints\, lanterns and other camp gear\, etc.  See hundreds of fair-goers of all ages dressed in colonial clothing: artisans\, soldiers\, ladies & gentlemen\, Native Americans\, longhunters\, traders\, servants\, etc.  Free entertainment for all.  The Fair is open to sutlers\, traders\, street vendors and entertainers as well as individuals\, groups\, military units and American Indians portraying the appropriate time period and geographic area\, representing eastern North America from 1730 through 1790. \nThe Fair is a Juried Event for camper and sutlers\, but open daily to all visitors. \nAttending Market Fair is a wonderful way to increase ones knowledge of the period\, particularly the French and Indian War period\, and the role that historic Fort Frederick played in that conflict and in protecting the Maryland frontier in general. \n\nPlease direct all questions to: info@friendsoffortfrederick.info\n\nThe Market Fair Committee

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Museum of 20th Century Warfare in Fort Harrison State Park \nThis is our our yearly timeline event where we feature various era’s of military in different areas of Historic Camp Glenn near the museum. We encourage diverse military impressions to give our visitors exposure to soldiers from all periods of time.  We will have camps or locations for 1400/1500’s\, 1700’s\, Napoleonic\, American Civil War\, Span-Am\, The Great War\, WW2\, Korea\, Cold War (1950-1992)\, and Vietnam. \nWe will provide camping area\, firewood (let us know ahead of time)\, indoor latrines and a Saturday evening meal.  We will have a building (701) for those not camping (heated building\, bare floor\, bathrooms).  In case of rain\, you can move into buildings 701 & 702 and set up displays   Check-in opens at noon Friday\, May 5 in the museum library. Please check in before setting up camp so we can get you in the appropriate location. \nOperation hours are Saturday 1000 to 1600 and Sunday 1000 to 1500.  No weapons (blank fire only and coordinate with museum staff before hand) fire before 10 AM or after 4 PM.  Don’t have an impression? We are needing volunteers to fill out the timeline and have clothing & weapons to suit up a Greek Hoplite\, Roman Legionnaire and we’re needing a WWI trench escort(to guide our visitors ). \nNote: No livestock(chickens\, rabbits\, pigs etc) except horses should be brought in the park. Dogs should be on 6′ leashes. \n

DESCRIPTION:Step back in time to 1750 – 1815 and see how settlers survived. The weekend is filled with demonstrations and instructions on the necessities of life\, ranging from plant dying and food preparation to the fur trade and weapons of that era. \nSaturday 10am to 5pm. Modern day conveniences of a bathroom\, a concession stand for modern foods and an ice cream parlor are all available for your comfort and enjoyment. Pass by the Mark Center Post Office and the Train Depot and the world will change as you are transported back to the late 1700’s! See our juried event. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDemonstrators living\, cooking and behaving as you would have between 1750 and 1812! No electricity or running water! It will make you appreciate your ancestors for sure!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAny Military\, Civilian or Eastern Woodland Native of the Great Lakes\, NW Territory or Middle Group is invited and encouraged to attend this juried event. SUMMARY:First Siege - 1813
DESCRIPTION:In the spring of 1813\, the American position at Fort Meigs came under attack from British and Allied American Indian Armies.  This event commemorates the dramatic nine day siege which defended Ohio in the War of 1812. \nFirst Siege – 1813 is a two-day encampment and reenactment within the 10 acre restored fort in Perrysburg\, Ohio. The daytime offerings feature dress parades\, skirmishes\, tactical engagements\, lectures\, period military music\, and a variety of skills and trades.  British and American regulars combined with State and Canadian militia make for a colorful pageant of military history on the Ohio frontier.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday 9 AM until 7 PM for some night displays and Sunday from 10AM until 4 PM weather permitting\, we will be featuring all sorts of antique tractors and hit-miss engines. \nAntique tractor pulls from 10 am – 3 pm on Saturday with a small connect fee. Trophies and prize money awarded. If you’d like to show or pull a tractor\, please contact us through Facebook messenger or villageauglaize@gmail.com There is no charge to show your tractor. \nVisit the flea market to find what you have always been looking for to buy. \nMake sure you pick up some food at the Red Barn Concession stand or homemade ice cream at the Ice Cream Shop in the Red Barn. Enjoy your ice cream while watching the broom maker make a broom. He might even let you attempt a ride on one around the Village. I’m told that if you can make that enchanting ride he will give you the broom. \nNow it’s the time to keep touring and walk off all that good food! You may have already visited the front of the Village: the Sherry Schoolhouse\, Doc Cameron’s Office\, the Mark Center Post Office\, the Minsel Barbershop\, and the Ayersville Telephone Office. Did you pick up a souvenir at the General Store? The back of the Village can’t be missed! To the far south end we have two gems. These two structures were built during the Great Depression to house CCC workers. They later housed POW’s (mostly German) in the area. They have been moved to the Village and house our Military collection and our Natural Science collection. DESCRIPTION:The Richland Early American Center for History invites you to discover life in early America during the 18th and 19th Century from living historical reenactors. Throughout the day there will be crafts\, trades\, demonstrations\, and activities\, including Blacksmithing\, Games and Children’s Activities\, Open Hearth Cooking Demonstrations\, and Civilian and Military Reenactments.  Grounds feature the 1808 log cabin with Rumford fireplace and baking oven\, an original 1812 Blockhouse\, and a late 18th/early 19th-century blacksmith/woodworking shop.  Public hours 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. \nAdmission and parking are free to public. \n**Food Truck will be on site for our event for visitors. \nFor Re-enactors:\nSet up Thursday\, June 8th in evening or Friday\, June 9th. DESCRIPTION:Participant setup on July 7th. July 8-9 for the reenactment: There will be a camp area\, open to the public\, and then stations where reenactors will discuss different aspects of being a soldier during different points of. the war. We are also looking at having a ‘recruiting area’ for kids\, where they would learn some basic drill – standing at attention\, marching\, etc. We have invited some of the other side (Germans) to join us\, so that some of their perspective can be shared too. There will be public “battles” on Saturday and Sunday to demonstrate some of the different skills and tactics used\, and just how difficult combat could be for the soldiers. \nAll types of military equipment\, supplies\, vehicles to include tracked vehicles are welcome. There is no registration or fee for this event. \nA cinnamon roll\, sausage gravy biscuit breakfast is served until 9AM. The concession stand will serve its usual hot dogs\, cheeseburgers\, brats\, sides and desserts until it runs out or 2PM. \nLarry Moore will be our D.J. and play oldies for the event. \nAt 2PM there is a key auction and the winner will fire up a vehicle with no oil and see how long it takes to seize the motor. Members of WCTA share their interest and passion for agriculture\, engines\, steam engines\, tractors\, and machinery. We welcome the public to our annual show to see what engines and tractors looked like many years ago\, how equipment has changed\, and how farming practices have modernized. Our area has a rich agricultural history\, we invite you to come and share it with us! Supporting our organization through event attendance and donations enables us to continue to preserve the history of our community.\nA brief history of WCTA’s Annual Show: In August of 1963\, Ray Kestel originated a yearly threshing bee on the Ed Kestel farm in Will County\, Illinois. In subsequent years\, the show was held at the Ray Kestel farm\, three mile south of New Lenox\, Illinois. On February 15\, 1966\, Ray called a meeting to propose that an organization be formed to support the annual show celebrating old-time agricultural methods. The forty-five men in attendance approved Ray’s plan\, and the Will County Threshermen’s Association was born. Ray served as the club’s president for its first five years. The organization’s purpose is to honor and preserve America’s agricultural legacy. It is especially appropriate that Will County host such an association\, to preserve a significant chapter in American history that took place here.\nWCTA continues to commemorate America’s agricultural heritage by having an annual show in Will County\, Illinois. Long-time friends of the organization remember that\, in its early years\, the show took place at the Fred Francis 4-H Field in New Lenox\, Illinois. At the fourth annual show\, twenty-five acres of oats were fed through a steam-powered thresher while plowing with oxen\, horses and steam engines making history come to life. By the 1970’s\, the show had grown and moved to the Peotone Fairgrounds. Later\, it moved to Burns Woods\, and in 2004\, to the Dollinger Farm. In 2013 and 2014\, the show was held at the Round Barn Farm Park\, in Manhattan\, Illinois\, the area where the show had first begun. The association at present is holding its annual show on the Steve Spiess Farm in Manhattan\, Illinois near Wilton Center.

SUMMARY:Historical Encampment at the Gathering at Garst
DESCRIPTION:Historical Timeline Event from Native American Civilizations to the Civil War Era.  Vendors\, demonstrators\, speakers\, music and reenactors will remind and teach us about defining events and peoples who shaped our country’s history.  Hear the stories\, throw a tomahawk or shoot a muzzleloader\, take part in a pioneer challenge\, watch the cannons fire.  Public admission is free.  There is a modern celebration across the “time zone” (street) as well\, all celebration proceeds benefit our local Garst Museum.  Come join us!
