DESCRIPTION:Join the fun and excitement at Compass Inn Museum for Ligonier Valley Historical Society’s second Living History Weekend of the summer. From 11 am to 4 pm on July 16th and 17th\, interact with the men and women of the Maryland based Ship’s Company\, a reenactment unit that portrays the naval contractor system used to supply the US Navy during the War of 1812\, highlighting the roles of early American businesswomen\, tailors\, seamstresses\, sailmakers\, brewers\, and millers. \nThe Living History Weekend also includes tours of the historic Compass Inn and outbuildings\, as well as cooking and blacksmithing demonstrations\, at no extra charge. \nGeneral admission is $14 for adults\, $12 for seniors (62+)\, $8 for youth (6-18)\, and free for children 5 & younger. DESCRIPTION:Open to self-propelled\, motorized or powered “anything.” Antique cars\, custom rods\, fire trucks and cycles. There is no registration or fee for this event. \nA cinnamon roll\, sausage gravy biscuit breakfast is served until 9AM. The concession stand will serve its usual hot dogs\, cheeseburgers\, brats\, sides and desserts until it runs out or 2PM. \nLarry Moore will be our D.J. and play oldies for the event. \nAt 2PM there is a key auction and the winner will fire up a vehicle with no oil and see how long it takes to seize the motor. \nGreat family fun! \nSunday 10am – 3pm \nSuggested Donation of $5 each. DESCRIPTION:Setup on July 8th. July 9th: There will be a camp area\, open to the public\, and then stations where reenactors will discuss different aspects of being a soldier during different points during the war. We are also looking at having a ‘recruiting area’ for kids\, where they would learn some basic drill – standing at attention\, marching\, etc. We have invited some of the other side (Germans) to join us\, so that some of their perspective can be shared too. SUMMARY:Spring Gathering – 1st Annual Colonial Days at South Park
DESCRIPTION:The Richland Early American Center for History invites you to discover life in early America during the 18th and 19th Century from living historical reenactors. Throughout the day there will be crafts\, trades\, demonstrations\, and activities\, including Blacksmithing\, Games and Children’s Activities\, Open Hearth Cooking Demonstrations\, and Civilian and Military Reenactments.  Grounds feature the 1808 log cabin with Rumford fireplace and baking oven\, an original 1812 Blockhouse\, and a late 18th/early 19th-century blacksmith/woodworking shop.  Public hours 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.\nAdmission and parking are free to public.\n**Food Truck will be on site for our event for visitors.\nFor Re-enactors:\nSet up Thursday\, June 9th in evening or Friday\, June 10th. We will have water\, wood\, restroom facilities\, and a food truck will be on site for Friday\, Saturday\, & Sunday. Dance Saturday evening with period musicians. DESCRIPTION:While now a peaceful area\, the confluence of the Three Rivers was once the front line in a battle that could have decided the fate of the entire Northwest Territory.  Reenactors from across the country will recreate the Siege of Fort Wayne during the War of 1812.  This weekend at the Old Fort will include musket and cannon demonstrations\, period artisans\, and children’s activities.

A full weekend of activities and things to do and see is awaiting your family. \nReenactment Battles\nThe cannon belches a cloud of smoke. A sharp crack that sounds like thunder announces the presence of opposing forces on the battlefield. Soldiers advance from the woods and a few shots are fired. Both armies are soon joined by reinforcements and the shooting becomes almost continuous. Smoke drifts across the field till the armies become like ghosts through the mist. The cannon fires again adding its voice to those of the muskets and rifles. You are drawn in and begin to see a picture of what 18th century warfare was like.

DESCRIPTION:Come rendezvous with us near the fork of Sycamore Creek and Battle Creek in Springfield\, Tennessee where the Battle Creek Massacre took place in June or July of 1780\, when a party of Choctaws and Chickasaws killed Joseph Renfro and about twenty persons in total as they left Renfro Station for safety and only one person escaped\, Mrs. Jones\, a widow\, who traveled alone to Eaton’s Station. \nIn 1838 Cherokees were forced to walk the Trail of Tears which crossed through Robertson County\, and more than 15\,000 lost their lives on the way to Tahlequah\, Oklahoma. The rendezvous site is located 27 miles North of Nashville\, Tennessee near many historical\, educational and entertainment destinations. \nPre-register online at www.nrlhf.org/cart.html or send a check or money order along with your registration form to NRLHF\, PO Box 5073\, Statesville\, NC 28687. Pre-registration ENDS April 29\, 2022. We strive to improve our self-image and encourage the best of Appalachian values while creating understanding and appreciation of our cultural heritage. \nHistory of our Festival\nThe A.C.D.A. has produced the Appalachian Festival. The organization’s directed by an all-volunteer Board of Trustees\, with at least 75% of those members being of Appalachian descent. The Appalachian Festival has been held annually during Mother’s Day weekend attracting at least 10\,000 visitors\, with an additional 1\,000 school children taking part in “Education Day”\, which is the first day of the festival each year.
