DESCRIPTION:The Museum of 20th Century Warfare and Ft. Harrison State Park will be hosting “Soldiers Thru Time” at the Fort Harrison State Park.  Visitors will see camps and displays set-up by re-enactors from many different time periods.  Living historians spanning 2500 years of military history will be wearing clothing and uniforms from their chosen time period or conflict and have equipment and weapons to show and describe. Presently we have impressions of Greek Hoplite\, Roman Legionary\, Mongol Light Calvary\, Revolutionary War\, American Civil War\, Spanish-American War\, World War One\, World War Two\, the Cold War period and the Vietnam War taking part. \nThe event will be open from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday and Sunday\, May 6 – 7.  Visitors may roam the Historic Camp Glenn Area where the camps and displays will be positioned. There is no battle re-enactment for this event.  There is no extra fee for this event however normal Indiana State Park gate fees do apply. For GPS directions use 6000 North Post Road for the address.  This will bring you to the front gate of the park. \nThis is our our yearly timeline event where we feature various eras of military in different areas of Historic Camp Glenn area in Fort Harrison State Park where our museum is located.  We would like a diverse example of military impressions to give our visitors exposure to soldiers from all periods of time. We will have camps or locations for 1400/1500’s\, 1700’s\, Napoleonic\, American Civil War\, Span-Am\, The Great War\, WW2\, Korea\, Cold War (1950-1992)\, and Vietnam as well as Desert Storm. \nWe will provide camping area\,  a nearby water source\,  indoor latrines and a Saturday evening meal. We will have a building (701) for those not camping (heated building\, bare floor\, bathrooms and kitchenette). In case of rain\, you can move into buildings 701 & 702 and set up displays.  Check-in opens at noon Friday\, May 3 and will continue Saturday morning in the museum library. Please check in before setting up camp so we can get you in the appropriate location. \nOperation hours are Saturday 1000 to 1600 and Sunday 1000 to 1500. No weapons  fire before 10 AM or after 4 PM Saturday.  (Blank fire only and coordinate with museum staff beforehand).  If you don’t have an impression  we are needing volunteers to fill out the timeline and have clothing & weapons to suit up a Greek Hoplite\, Roman Legionnaire and others. We’re needing a WWI trench escort(to guide our visitors to the trench area). \nNote: No livestock (chickens\, rabbits\, pigs etc.) except horses should be brought in the park. Dogs should be on 6′ leashes. \nAn email with any updated information will be sent out a few days before the event. \nParticipant registration is through our Zeffy link :   https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/c9831ffd-b5a7-438b-ac80-256e99f48173 \nAny questions can be sent to dale2952@gmail.com .

SUMMARY:1721: Life of a Sailor
DESCRIPTION:1721 is an annual\, historic event hosted by Pyracy.com and Fort King George highlighting early 18th century life at sea.\nThe Fort has been commandeered by bands of marauders\, buccaneers\, sailors\, scouts\, and pirates! This three day festival will showcase the true history of those free-spirits living during the Golden Age of Sail. Reenactors will display blackpowder arms and ammunitions\, cooking and medicine\, historical crafts\, and more!\n10 AM – 4 PM each day\nReenactors who wish to volunteer for this event are free to contact a ranger at 912-437-4770 for a registration form.\n  \nFrom Pyracy.com website: \nFort King George – Built in 1721.  excerpt from the state website: \n“The reconstructed Fort King George anchors present day visitors to a rich history where Native American and European cultures met\, colonial empires collided\, soldiers toiled and perished\, and industry boomed on the shores of the Altamaha River.” \nThis event strives for historical accuracy to the date 1721.  It’s a colonial period sailors and nautical event\, which differs from previous Pyracy.com sponsored events in that you must make a sincere effort to look the part of a sailor in the year 1721 (who may also happen to be thieves and scoundrels\, but dont advertise themselves as such). \nThe fort’s management requires a high degree of historical accuracy for this event. \nThere is a thread started in the Pyracy forum for general information\, questions and request to participate. All participants must be pre-registered and will be vetted for historical accuracy. \nhttps://pyracy.com/forum/291-1721-fort-king-george/ \nexcerpt from the state website: \n“This is the oldest English fort remaining on Georgia’s coast. From 1721 until 1736\, Fort King George was the southern outpost of the British Empire in North America. A cypress blockhouse\, barracks and palisaded earthen fort were constructed in 1721 by scoutmen led by Colonel John “Tuscarora Jack” Barnwell. For the next seven years\, His Majesty’s Independent Company garrisoned the fort. They endured incredible hardships from disease\, threats of Spanish and Indian attacks\, and the harsh\, unfamiliar coastal environment. After the fort was abandoned\, General James Oglethorpe brought Scottish Highlanders to the site in 1736. The settlement\, called Darien\, eventually became a foremost export center of lumber until 1925. \nUsing old records and drawings\, this 18th century frontier fortification on the Altamaha River has been reconstructed for public tours. Structures include a blockhouse\, officers’ quarters\, barracks\, a guardhouse\, moat and palisades. A museum and film cover the Guale Indians\, the Santo Domingo de Talaje mission\, Fort King George\, the Scots of Darien and 19th century sawmilling when Darien became a major seaport. In addition to the many fort buildings\, remains of three sawmills and tabby ruins are still visible.” \nParticipation in this event comes with set guidelines\, a paid registration for the event and a separate registration with the fort for information and insurance purposes.

SUMMARY:The Battle of New Orleans
DESCRIPTION:The Battle of New Orleans was a multi-faceted event in regional and national history.  It had all of the following: \n\nA Glorious American Victory? Yes.\nA horrible human tragedy for the British? Yes\nHappened after the signing of the peace treaty ending the War of 1812? Yes\nA seminal event in race relations in New Orleans and American history? Yes\nPropelled one man to be elected President? Yes\nand more…\n\nThe British campaigns in the swamps of now-St. Bernard Parish during the winter of 1814-15 were all of these things.  Through our participation in living history events\, the Friends of the Battle of New Orleans seeks to educate the public about all these things.  We sponsor an annual event to recreate a feeling of what life was like during that period.  Our event gathers volunteer living history participants from across the North American continent to bring history back to life.  We invite the public and a wide range of school children to participate and learn about these events and their significance. \n208th Anniversary\nParade Friday night through the French Quarter\, dance Saturday night – Excellent camp-cooked food during the days
