SUMMARY:The Battle of New Orleans
DESCRIPTION:The Battle of New Orleans was a multi-faceted event in regional and national history.  It had all of the following: \n\nA Glorious American Victory? Yes.\nA horrible human tragedy for the British? Yes\nHappened after the signing of the peace treaty ending the War of 1812? Yes\nA seminal event in race relations in New Orleans and American history? Yes\nPropelled one man to be elected President? Yes\nand more…\n\nThe British campaigns in the swamps of now-St. Bernard Parish during the winter of 1814-15 were all of these things.  Through our participation in living history events\, the Friends of the Battle of New Orleans seeks to educate the public about all these things.  We sponsor an annual event to recreate a feeling of what life was like during that period.  Our event gathers volunteer living history participants from across the North American continent to bring history back to life.  We invite the public and a wide range of school children to participate and learn about these events and their significance. \n208th Anniversary\nParade Friday night through the French Quarter\, dance Saturday night – Excellent camp-cooked food during the days

SUMMARY:Johnny Appleseed Festival Antique Tractor Show\, Fun Pull\, and Flea Market October 7 & 8\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:This is our biggest event of the year! \nAs fall arrives this is the last chance to revive all of your senses\, to create a mental picture that will carry you through the winter. Reviving your senses will be the making of apple cider\, cooking sorghum molasses\, popping the kettle corn\, and sawing timber into lumber. You can catch a performance by Johnny Appleseed. \nFor those who have never participated in a tractor pull you can try your hand at it for $5 per pull. We will have a tractor to use with a seasoned tractor puller there for help. \n Visit the front of the Village: the Sherry Schoolhouse\, the Chapel of Crosses Church\, Doc Cameron’s Office\, the Mark Center Post Office\, the Minsel Barbershop\, the Blacksmith shop\, and the Ayersville Telephone Office. As you walk through the pioneer village\, you will notice the Train Depot. You can pass through the depot\, purchase a $2 ticket at the window and wait on the platform for the next train! The conductor will punch your ticket and tour you around the village grounds. Wave as you pass by! \nThe back of the Village can’t be missed! To the far south end we have two gems. These two structures were built during the Great Depression to house CCC workers. They later housed POW’s (mostly German) in the area. They have been moved to the Village and house our William Bensinger Military Museum collection and our Charles E. Slocum Natural History Museum collection. Don’t miss the sawmill and the Hale Logging Shanty\, the woodshop\, the Vaughn’s Lock Keeper’s House that was part of the canal system\, and the two story Kinner Log Home.

SUMMARY:Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial's Historic Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Every year the weekend after Labor Day weekend we commemorate the Battle of Lake Erie and the men on both sides that fought in it. We do this with a commemoration ceremony\, parade\, historic weapons demonstrations\, trade demonstrations\, and just living history in general. Traditional our friends group\, The Perry Group\, charters a ferry for a wreath laying at the battle site. The National Park Services relies heavily on the reenactment community as volunteers to make this event possible. We look to have reenactors portraying US Army\, Navy (Marines)\, Militia\, camp followers\, and trades. We would also love to have crown forces present and indigenous forces. All from the War of 1812. Many reenactors arrive Friday afternoon/evening to setup. Camp is open and demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.
