SUMMARY:Historic Fall Trade Fair at Fort Piqua
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at the new Historic Fall Trade Fair at Fort Piqua\, October 19-20\, 2024. The Trade Fair spans the early years of Ohio’s history from 1742-1862\, focusing on the life in and around the Historic Johnston Farm and Indian Agency. Come and see how Ohio influenced the history of the United States through the various demonstrators\, vendors\, and living historians that will be on site.  Come see a bodger at work\, and how his work affects the cook in the kitchen. Get tied up in loom work both the small looms that held everything together to the larger looms that covered the floor. Follow the smells to the kitchens of the house and visit the resident cook as she uncovers the mysteries of past recipes. Feel the concussion of cannons as they fire multiple rounds during the weekend. Oxen will be working not just in the fields but doing chores around the farm. There will be kid’s games and activities at the house just like the Johnston’s would have done to keep their kids busy when chores were done. Hold onto your wallets and protect your pockets if you dare to enter the world of Cutthroat Cheats and Thieves! They will be happy to introduce you to the Notorious Professions of the 18th Century. Who knows\, maybe they will purchase\, I mean\, “hire” your children from you to teach them some job skills.  There will be talks about women and their role in the 18th century. Longhunters will be returning from their forays west. A Victorian farming family will be coming to sell their fall harvest. The soap makers will be making their last batches of soap for the year. Our Colonial balladeer will sing you the songs of yesteryear. Hear the ring of blacksmith anvils as you see how blacksmithing changed over the decades. Find pieces of artwork to hang on your walls that forever capture a snapshot of years gone by. Take a leisurely ride down the canal on the General Harrison. Come and find a piece of history to take home with you from our historic vendors or to give to a loved one. This is the perfect place to find the memorable and unforgettable\, for today and for the holidays. Please join us for a fun and educational event you will love! \n  \n  \n
