SUMMARY:Post Miami
DESCRIPTION:Historic Fort Wayne\, Inc. will host a Post Miami Event August 24-25. The French were the first Europeans to settle in the Great Lakes region. They arrived in northeast Indiana in the late 1600s. The confluence of the three rivers helped facilitate a lucrative fur trade with the Native American tribes. To protect their new venture\, the French completed construction of Fort Miami in 1722\, the first of two French forts built in the area. This weekend at the Old Fort\, the French and British forces will reenact the clash for control of the area. Fur traders\, Native Americans\, soldiers\, and civilians will demonstrate daily activities. There will be musket and cannon demonstrations. Artisans will demonstrate their craft. Merchants will sell their wares. The event runs Saturday August 24\, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday August 25\, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. The event is free. \nFirst time participants must submit photos of themselves\, members\, and camp. First time vendors and blanket traders must attach photos of the camp and time-period appropriate merchandise. Registration deadline is August 9\, 2024. Check-in begins Friday at 10:00 am. Saturday check-in is 6:00 am to 8:00 am. Vehicles must leave the grounds by 8:00 am Saturday. Parking is available in the lot across the street. Camp areas are assigned.  Restrooms and a source of water are available. There are no food vendors on site.

SUMMARY:THE SKIRMISH ON KINGS HIGHWAY
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 1\, 2024\, the Redcoats will invade Haddonfield and be challenged by Continental troops\, just as they did 246 years ago — in June 1778. \nThe day’s events include many other activities such as a Yelling Contest\, Colonial Dancing\, Pillory Prisoners and Character reenactors. Plus\, Soldier reenactors will be available to meet visitors before and after the Skirmish. \nRedcoats will charge\, muskets will be fired\, and the Continentals will try to stop the British before they head off to the Battle at Monmouth. General Washington had ordered the militia to “annoy” the Redcoats\, and so we will again. \nThe clash and other events takes place on Kings Highway. There will be plenty of sidewalk space for viewing and cheering along Kings Highway and the conflict should take about 20 minutes. Tours of the historic tavern will be offered all day.

SUMMARY:The Battle of New Orleans
DESCRIPTION:The Battle of New Orleans was a multi-faceted event in regional and national history.  It had all of the following: \n\nA Glorious American Victory? Yes.\nA horrible human tragedy for the British? Yes\nHappened after the signing of the peace treaty ending the War of 1812? Yes\nA seminal event in race relations in New Orleans and American history? Yes\nPropelled one man to be elected President? Yes\nand more…\n\nThe British campaigns in the swamps of now-St. Bernard Parish during the winter of 1814-15 were all of these things.  Through our participation in living history events\, the Friends of the Battle of New Orleans seeks to educate the public about all these things.  We sponsor an annual event to recreate a feeling of what life was like during that period.  Our event gathers volunteer living history participants from across the North American continent to bring history back to life.  We invite the public and a wide range of school children to participate and learn about these events and their significance. \n208th Anniversary\nParade Friday night through the French Quarter\, dance Saturday night – Excellent camp-cooked food during the days
