DESCRIPTION:245th Anniversary Event\nThis event will take place January 9 to 11\, 2026 at the Historic Blakeley State Park. \nHistoric Context:\nAfter the loss of Mobile to the Spanish in 1780\, British General John Campbell launched a counter attack on Mobile.  On the morning of January 7\, 1781\, the British forces arrived to siege a palisade fort constructed by the Spanish on the far side of the bay; this was located near a settlement called “French Village” or “The Village.”  The British forces\, led by Colonel Johann von Hanxleden\, fell into disarray and were repelled after the sudden death of their commander during the battle. \nReenactor Packet: \nCLICK HERE to download the Reenactor Packet (official schedule\, safety policies\, clothing standards\, etc.) for the event. \nPlease connect with us on Facebook! \nReenactor Registration: \nCLICK HERE to register yourself or your living history organization.  You will be contacted by e-mail after submitting this form to confirm your registration.  You must receive e-mail confirmation to participate–random walk-ins will NOT be accepted.

DESCRIPTION:Visitors can meet authentically clad and equipped military and civilian reenactors who will discuss the everyday lives of Civil War soldiers\, and the roles civilians played in supporting them. \nFeel the thunder of artillery and hear accounts from civilians in 1860’s and take a stroll through the military camps. Have your picture taken using authentic Wet Plate Collodion Tintype process for purchase. Take a candlelight tour of the camps Saturday evening. \nRe-enactors:\nWe are looking for 1st-person historical presentations and displays. Set up on Friday. Firewood provided. SUMMARY:Historical Encampment at the Gathering at Garst
DESCRIPTION:Under the canopy of centuries old oak and sycamore trees\, we have carved out a place where the stories of our country’s past can be heard as clear as the day they happened.  Campfire smoke and music or storytelling wafts through the air and cannon and musket fire occasionally break the peaceful atmosphere in our well-established encampment-which represents the time period panning the Revolutionary War to the Civil War-of nicely stocked shops\, tradesfolk\, Native American lodges\, and camps.  The committee works tirelessly to make our Encampment unique\, organized and enjoyable as possible for both the reenactors and visitors.  A great way to share history with the kids\, grandkids AND grandparents in an exciting way.  We have demonstrations\, kids activities and games\, challenges for adults\, storytellers\, music\, etc.  Last year we had over 70 families/camps participating.  This year we expect to have some special activities to celebrate USA 250! \nAcross the street is our lovely museum and grounds which offers at the same time a “modern” version of the Gathering with vendors\, music\, food\, kids events\, etc.   Darke County has other events over the weekend and we invite you to get a room and stay awhile.  We will keep you busy!

DESCRIPTION:Our “A Walk in Their Boots” Living History Group has another exciting Military Timeline event planned for our 3rd year at Camp Davy Crockett in 2026! This event showcases an extensive array of military and civilian displays from various historical periods. The event will feature military encampments\, equipment\, weapons\, vehicles\, and more. Throughout the day\, attendees can witness weapons demonstrations and battle reenactments\, as well as military vehicles on parade. This year’s event will once again showcase several armored vehicles\, including a World War II German “Tiger” tank\, Cold War era British “Scorpion” tank\, and “Abbott” Self-Propelled Gun. Additionally\, a US Vietnam War era “Gun Truck” known as the “Ace of Spades”\, WWII US M 20 and Cold War era British “Ferret” Armored Cars\, multiple jeeps\, military trucks\, motorcycles\, and other vehicles will be on display. These machines are truly remarkable and witnessing them in action is an astounding experience. As always\, the event is free and open to the public. We cordially invite you to attend and step back through history to experience a day in the life of a soldier in the field!

DESCRIPTION:This is a reenactment of the Siege of Fort Boonesborough from 1778. The Fort founded by Daniel Boone in April 1775 was attacked in September 1778 by a party of over 400 Native Americans of mixed tribes supported by British officers. This multi day siege failed and the fort survived. We have Saturday and Sunday battle re-enactments at 2:00pm.  Come early and spend the day learning about 18th century life in Kentucky. Visit a Living History Event including militia\, Native Americans and settlers’ camps\, traders\, learn to throw a tomahawk\, food\, music and more. Visit the 18th century Transylvania Store.
